A LONG time ago (and we mean ages) we interviewed the incredible Jess from According to Jess – who is a passionate, inspired and dedicated wildlife conservationist (and elephant & insect lover!)

We want you to get to know Jess as well, so have a read of our interview below and don’t forget to follow Jess on Instagram, Facebook and Twitter oh and have a read of her blog.

  1. Why did you get into Blogging?

I initially got into blogging to share my ideas and views on general topics that people were talking about, with a personal aim of being more creative with my writing. But as I found my passion, wildlife conservation, and my own writing style, it led into so much more than that. I now use blogging to educate and create awareness about worldwide conservation, and through that I have found that blogging is such an efficient and fun way of achieving that!

  1. Why did you choose to write about wildlife and conservation?

I have always been interested in wildlife, nature and wanting to do something good in the world. But I really got into blogging when I was working in conservation in South Africa, filming a documentary, and literally was too impatient to wait the many months that it takes to get the footage on screen before people were aware of the particular topic. The wildlife conservation message was an important one, and my storyabout the truth behind cub petting and animal selfies had to be told. It was a huge success in creating awareness about true conservation, and dispelling the myths that millions of people are told about helping wildlife all around the world.

Sincethe viral success of the article, I have continued blogging and documenting all things wildlife and conservation, and have found that blogging is a tremendous way of educating people all around the world.

  1. Where do you get your inspiration from?

I get my inspiration from so many different sources. Whether that be my physical work on the ground in conservation, books that I read, photographers that I come across on Instagram, rangers working in the African bush, or my nine year old Godson who helps me with bumblebee identification.

  1. What’s your plan for your blog over the next 12 months?

Over the next 12 months I am aiming to find inspirational people from all around the world who are doing incredible things for conservation, but who don’t currently have the means to get their stories told. I am looking to collaborate, explore, and document in order to create as much awareness about our planet as possible, and most of all, to get people interested in the natural world.

  1. What’s your BIG goal for your blog?

My big goal for my blog is simply to reach millions of people worldwide. The topics that I write about are all things that affect every single person on this planet, andare often things that I have experienced personally.  My key belief is that education is crucial to the protection of our world and all of its wildlife. I want to be the type of blog that people always go back to, to learn new things and to see creative content.

  1. Where do you think the world of blogging is heading?

I think that the world of blogging is heading in an incredibly positive direction at the moment. Our generation is the first that is truly questioning everything about the world, and not simply believing something just because someone in power has said it. I think that blogging has provided every single person with a public voice that they wouldn’t otherwise have had the outlet to share. We are the future, and blogging is a great way for us to share the type of future that we want.
